Smart Orchard System: A Beacon of Agricultural Innovation on Blockchain Day
Kuala Lumpur, July 16, 2025 — A smart “fruit” born in Malaysia is quietly reshaping the future of agriculture. At Malaysia Blockchain Day 2025, the agri-tech project Smart Orchard System (SOS), developed by a local team, successfully earned a place in the Top 8 of the $100,000 BGA × Masverse Joint Fund Hackathon, outlining a new blueprint for sustainable agriculture through the integration of blockchain and IoT.
The hackathon, co-hosted by international nonprofit Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) and Malaysian blockchain platform Masverse, focused on the theme “Blockchain for Good.” As one of the Top 8 in the Real-World Developers Track, Smart Orchard System now stands a chance to receive up to $20,000 in development funding, and may also present its solution globally at the 2025 Web3Oscar showcase in UN City, Copenhagen.

Blockchain × Agriculture: A Digital Farming Revolution
Smart Orchard System is more than just a farming tool — it’s a technological ecosystem that fuses blockchain with IoT to elevate agriculture. By deploying IoT sensors across orchards, the system collects real-time data on temperature, humidity, light, and more. All data is recorded and synchronized via blockchain to ensure transparency, authenticity, and immutability.
Each tree has its own unique growth record on-chain, enabling precision fertilization and management, while also laying the groundwork for product traceability, certification, and consumer trust. Through the custom app Smart Orchard System (Viewer), users can remotely monitor orchard health, crop conditions, and operational performance — making agriculture smarter, more efficient, and more reliable.

Futurism in the Orchard
SOS represents not only improved efficiency but also a paradigm shift in how agriculture is managed — from experience-based traditional farming to data-driven smart agriculture. Amid global challenges like food insecurity, climate risks, and labor shortages, such a system is becoming increasingly valuable.

That’s why Smart Orchard System’s Top 8 selection has garnered national attention and is seen as a major step in bringing Malaysia’s blockchain innovation to the global stage. Other standout finalists alongside SOS include GreenPOS, PowerChain, GiveHope, and Ralos Solar, each focusing on areas like green energy, social impact, and digital identity verification — demonstrating the wide-reaching applications of the “Blockchain for Good” vision.
Through the BGA × Masverse platform, SOS is becoming more than a project — it is a symbol of a new paradigm: a future where technology nurtures the land and safeguards sustainability.
